Wellington Beginners Photography Course | Course Feedback from first session

Students are taught how to use their manual settings

Finding interesting angles and locations for the shoots.  This was a graffiti alleyway on the way to the park.
Teaching how different photos look from different angles and heights.
Comments from the Feedback forms:

"The thing I got the most from the course was Depth of Field and F stops.
I had heard of this concept before but didn't really fully understand what it meant.  The light in my head went on and I now know what situations to use the high and low F stops.  Just need to practice it now.
Mandi, I think you have a really nice calm patient manner.  It's great to see someone following their dream and making a success of it."

"I loved this short workshop.  It gave me the basic information I needed in order to take amazing, clear photos.  It explained all the things I knew my photos lacked and what settings I needed to use (or turn off) to improve them.  Just the right amount of information  for a beginner and VERY INSPIRING !!!  I am soo exciting about the possibilities !!  I have a gorgeous baby just waiting for gorgeous moments to be captured now !!"

"I gained a good understanding of my camera- I can now use manual mode! Have finally got my head around aperture and shutter speed... and even learnt about ISO and white balance which I had no idea about previously."

"I learned how to work out and change my settings and sort out different views/backgrounds"

"That the buttons on the camera should be like an extention of your body, and then learning how the buttons work and the demonstration with water really helped.

"I am also looking forward to getting a camera with aperture and shutter settings so I have more control over what my photos turn out like and experiencing less disappointment due to poor lighting etc :-).  (But will keep using my 'handbag' camera too!)

"Websites were great references too. "

This is course is to teach seductive, cheesecake, playful, and whimiscal photography in a style that celebrates the photography from the 30's-50's.   There will be no nudity from either the models or the photographer hopefully.  This class is designed for keen amateur photographers, or professionals who would like to get their head around playful posing and lighting for pinups.

Bubby A La Mode | Newborn Photography Classes

Have you ever wanted to take amazing pictures of the babies in your life?
Would you like a multi award winning photographer who loves to teach to be your mentor?
Well then bring your camera along and let Mandi Lynn show you what is in her bag of tricks. Mandi shoots only with natural light for her newborn portraits and she is happy to show you what she does and how you can do lots with the equipment that you have at home even if it is just the camera on your phone.

This class is a field trip class and will take place at her studio at the Blueberry Farm in the Akatarawa Valley and will use live models to show you how she pulls off her heartfelt portraits of new families.

The fieldtrip lasts 4 hours with the first hour being the instructional part of the class then the second half will be a live demonstration of how she sets up and works with new parents and their babies. During this time you will be able to photograph the scenes as well using your own equipment.  Then the last part of the class will be for general questions and answers.

To get the most out of this class you will need to be quite familiar with how your camera works and be able to turn the flash off on your camera.  If you still feel wobbly with your equipment it is probably best if you attend one of theintroductory courses, so you can get the most out of her posing techniques.

This course is fun, hands on, and important.  Those little buggers grow up so fast and you don't just want a bunch of blurry, unimaginative images to celebrate that wonderful time in their life.  You want gorgeous beautiful ones that you will be chuffed to say....yes that beautiful creature is my child/grandchild/niece/nephew....and I took that shot!  Score some bragging rights and sign up today.  Classes are very limited to 10 per class and Mandi only teaches a handful of these classes each year. So grab your spot quickly before that baby grows up!
Classes will be held with a minimum of 3 people per class.

Catch the kids when they are being so cute. Get that sunset nailed.
And what exactly is aperture and speed? How come my photos sometimes look yellow, or blue? How come they are often blurry or focused on the wrong thing? How can I photograph in Manual setting and get better control...do I want to?
How do I catch the emotion of the moment?

Mandi Lynn, the multi - award winning photographer and creative director of A La Mode will take you through one hour of camera familiarization and then will take you out on a one hour field trip into the city, or bush to show you how to capture that stunning image.
